Past simple
I was a very naughty student when I was at university. I often played truant and I spent a lot of time not learning anything. I preferred hanging out with friends. That's why I got really bad results.

Past simple: Form
- I played football.
- He played football.
- I had a dog.
- He had a dog.

Past simple: Use
I had a dog, but it was kidnapped.

I enjoyed playing sports when I was a kid, but now I no longer like it.
- I used to play sports.

Past continuous
When I came, she was having a bath.
was/were + V-ing

 What were you doing when I called you last night?

Past perfect
When I came, she had already finished taking a bath.
had + V3

- When he came, I had already finished.
- I had finished before he came.
- He came after I had finished.
